The Central Coast Mariners are pleased to announce the signing of 17-year-old left back Stevan Rujak, who joins the club from Western Sydney Wanderers.
A current youth international, Rujak arrives on the Central Coast as an exciting addition to the Mariners’ emerging group of young players, bringing considerable potential for the future.
Operating primarily on the left side of defence, Rujak is comfortable contributing at both ends of the pitch and joins the Mariners looking to take the next step in his development within the club.
Central Coast Mariners Sporting Director Matt Simon welcomes Rujak to the Coast and believes the 17-year-old has the attributes to thrive within the Mariners system.
“Stevan is a young player we are really excited to bring into the club,” Simon said.
“He is already involved at youth international level and we believe there is a lot of growth still to come in his game.
“As a left back, he gives us natural balance on that side of the pitch. He is confident with the ball, wants to get forward and has the athleticism and competitiveness that we look for in our young players.
“One of the things we have been very clear about is that we want the Central Coast Mariners to remain a place where talented young footballers know they will be developed, challenged and, when they are ready, given opportunities.”
For Rujak, the move represents a fresh challenge and an opportunity to continue his development at a club.
“I’m really excited to join the Mariners and get started,” Rujak said.
“The Mariners have such a strong reputation for developing young players and giving them opportunities, and that was something that really appealed to me.
“I’m grateful for everything I’ve learned during my time at Western Sydney and for all the coaches and people who have helped me get to this point. Now I’m looking forward to a new environment, learning from the players and coaches here and continuing to improve.
“Representing my country at youth level is something I’m incredibly proud of and it has made me even more determined to keep working and developing my game.
“I want to compete, contribute to the team and make the most of every opportunity I’m given. I can’t wait to pull on the Mariners shirt.”
Rujak’s arrival further strengthens the Mariners’ commitment to identifying and developing some of Australia’s most promising young footballers while providing a clear environment in which they can push towards senior football.
The 17-year-old will now link up with the Mariners as preparations continue for the upcoming season.
