The Mariners have not lost a game on Roars home soil since March 2020 and that streak continued last night with Mariners taking 3 points back to the Coast.
The Mariners 2 – 1 victory over Roar, was their second back to back win. With several mid-season signings and the calm leadership of Warren Moon seeing the squad rise another place on the A-Leagues ladder for the second week in a row. The push for the top 6 is on.
The Roar’s, World Cup contender, D’Agostino found the back of the net in the 44th minute. His first goal since returning to Australia. The score board didn’t stay like that for long with Miguel Di Pizio scoring under 3 mins later in stoppage time making it all even at the break.
The second half proved a slow ramp up, with any meaningful shots at goal by Brisbane missed or thwarted by the Mariners veteran goal keeper, Andrew Redmayne.
The Mariners, Storm Roux broke the deadlock in the 79th minute with his left foot finally ending a penalty area scramble. This was his 9th goal in 285 A-League matches, marking a significant, rare strike for the veteran defender. The Central Coast held the lead till the final whistle.
This marks back to back wins for the Mariners as they scored a stunning win against Victory at home last weekend. With a bye Round 17, The Mariners return to the coast focused on their next home game against Western Sydney Wanderers at polytec Stadium on Sunday 22 February.
