Sam Silvera has signed with the Central Coast Mariners in an exciting move that will see him return home to play in Yellow and Navy for the next three seasons.
Silvera joined the club initially in 2019 from Western Sydney Wanderers on a scholarship agreement and went on to make 21 Isuzu UTE A-League appearances for the club, scoring his first league goal against Perth Glory on the 3rd of November 2019. Following a very successful opening season in professional football, Silvera joined Paços de Ferreira in Portugal and was subsequently loaned out to Liga Pro side Casa Pia, then Sanjoanense where he made four appearances and scored one goal.
The attacker most recently was with the Newcastle Jets on loan from Portugal and he amassed 19 appearances and scored off the bench against Western Sydney Wanderers, as well as always looking dangerous while on the park and exciting fans with his direct runs and trickery.
Silvera was excited to come back to the Mariners where he previously found success.
“I am really happy to be back home for the next threeseasons and I am looking forward to playing under Monty [Nick Montgomery] & Serg [Sergio Raimundo – Assistant Coach]. I know they can help take my game to the next level and seeing what they have done with young players at the club, I know this is the right move for me.”
“I had a lot of good memories from my time here and I am grateful to the Mariners for giving me my professional debut” Silvera added.
“The club has built strong foundations over the last couple of seasons and I am ready to excite the fans once more.”
Mariners Head Coach Nick Montgomery is relishing the chance to work with Sam again after he crossed paths with him during his time as Academy Coach.
“I got to know Sammy when he first joined the club from Western Sydney Wanderers when I took on the role of Academy Coach in the same year.
“Sam is a very talented attacker who can play multiple positions across the front third and can contribute by creating and scoring goals. His time in Portugal has matured him as a player and last season, he showed what he can do at this level with limited game time” Montgomery said.
“Now he is back where he belongs, I think he has unfinished business and we are delighted to have attained his transfer from Paços, as we feel he can be a real asset for us moving forward.”
Thanks to Sam returning to the Mariners family, you too can win a Navy Family Membership.
