Japanese attacking midfielder and winger Taiyo Hisamatsu will bring pace, technical quality and skill set to beat defenders to the Central Coast Mariners after signing with the Club’s A-League Men’s squad.
The 19-year-old joins after spending time with SKN St. Pölten Amateure in Austria, where he continued his development in senior football following his move from Japan.
Hisamatsu developed at Kokoku High School, one of Japan’s recognised football schools, and his youth development included involvement in a Japan Under-17 training camp.
Central Coast Mariners Sporting Director Matt Simon said Hisamatsu’s attributes and potential made him an exciting addition to the squad.
“Taiyo is a really exciting young player who we believe has a lot of upside,” Simon said.
“He’s quick, technically very good and brave in the way he wants to attack defenders. He has already shown a willingness to challenge himself by leaving Japan and playing in Europe at a young age, and that tells you something about his mentality.
“We’ve spoken a lot about bringing players into this football club who are hungry to improve and who see the Mariners as a place where they can take the next step in their careers. Taiyo fits that profile well.
“We’re looking forward to getting him into our environment and seeing what he can add to the group.”
Hisamatsu said he was excited to begin the next stage of his career on the Central Coast.
“I’m very happy to join the Central Coast Mariners and I’m grateful for the opportunity the Club has given me,” Hisamatsu said.
“Coming to Australia is another new challenge for me and I’m excited to learn, improve and show the supporters the type of player I am.
“I want to work hard for the team, help us win games and continue developing every day.
“I’m looking forward to meeting the Mariners supporters and playing at our home stadium for the first time.”
Hisamatsu joins John Hutchinson’s squad subject to receiving the required visa-work permit, as the Mariners prepare for the A-League 2026/27 Season opener against Newcastle Jets in the F3 Derby at Polytec Stadium on 17 October 2026
