Three Mariners selected for U-17 Australia Camp

Mariners Campbell Dovison, Miguel Di Pizio and Andre Parkes have all been selected for a two-week training camp to take place in Melbourne as part of the Joey’s preparation for the upcoming AFC U-17 Asian Cup Qualifiers.

After three years of inactivity for the Joey’s program due to COVID, all eyes now turn to the Asian Cup, with this camp pivotal in aiding new head coach Brad Maloney in naming his squad for the upcoming qualifiers.

The camp will run from Saturday, 17 September through until Friday, 30 September before a 23-player squad will be announced.

This squad will compete against China PR, Cambodia and Northern Mariana Islands in Group G of the AFC U-17 Asian Cup 2023 Qualifiers during early October.

“After being in hiatus for the past three years due to the COVID-19 pandemic, it’s exciting for all concerned to convene this Joeys’ camp as we prepare for what we hope and plan will be a busy and fruitful two years for this age group,” Maloney said.

“My staff and I have selected a talented and versatile squad for this camp, where following an intensive fortnight on the training ground we will select the final 23-players who will move forward to the AFC U-17 Asian Cup 2023 Qualifiers next month.”

To qualify for the AFC Asian Cup 2023, a team needs to top their respective Group or be one of the five best placed Group runners-up. From the AFC Asian Cup 2023 – where the host country/dates are TBA – the top four teams from this tournament will qualify for the 2023 FIFA U-17 World Cup as the AFC representatives.
