Preview: Premiers Plate within reach in Pink Round clash

Central Coast Mariners will be looking to lift the Premiers Plate on Wednesday evening at Our Paradise, as Adelaide United make the trip to Gosford in the final match of the 2023/24 Isuzu UTE A-League.

The Mariners have already locked in Asian Champions League and Finals Football, but are looking to get their hands on the first out of three available pieces of silverware this month.

Tonight, a draw or more will see us lift the Premiers Plate for the first time in 12 years, in front of our home supporters.

Adelaide stand in our way, who despite having nothing to play for on the ladder, will be looking to continue their recent form, end their season on a high and play the party-poopers at Our Paradise.

🗞 Team news

Mark Jackson names an unchanged from Saturday’s F3 Derby success, Alou Kuol keeps his place up front.

Mikael Doka, Brian Kaltak, Josh Nisbet, Max Balard and Christian Theoharous will be hoping to add to individual trophies on Monday evening at the 2024 Mariners Medal Dinner, with some team silverware this evening.

🆚 Adelaide United

Only Mark Jackson’s Mariners have outperformed Adelaide in the previous six Isuzu UTE A-League games, once again highlighting that Adelaide present a tough test despite having ‘nothing to play for’ as such on Wednesday evening.

The Reds have taken 13 points from their last 18 available, whilst the Mariners have taken 15. Adelaide’s only dropped points were a 3-3 draw with Western and a loss to Macarthur, both at home.

Carl Veart’s team are also the highest scorers in the league with 52, level with Sydney FC. They have significantly added to that tally recently – scoring sixteen in their last four games including four against each of Western (4-1 W), Perth (4-2 W) and last time out against Brisbane Roar, (4-3 W).

Hiroshi Ibusuki is their main contributor with 15 in 25 appearances which ranks him fourth on the league’s scoring chart whilst Nestory Irankunda is another obvious one to watch for Mark Jackson’s side.

Adelaide’s 18-year-old starlet has eight goals and six assists this season and has made himself the talk of the Isuzu UTE A-League. Undoubtedly one of Australia’s hottest talents, will play his final game in the competition this evening in Gosford, ahead of his massive move to European giants Bayern Munich. Expect another enthralling battle with the Mariners full-backs.

Previously against Adelaide

The Mariners get their revenge from a 3-0 opening day defeat, with a scintillating 4-0 victory the last time the two met in early February.

The Mariners ran riot, scoring three in the first half before Jing Reec added a late penalty to seal a memorable win at Coopers Stadium.

And who could forget the last time Adelaide visited Our Paradise? One of the finest nights in Mariners history saw us storm into the Grand Final with a 2-0 second leg victory in front of a record, sold-out crowd.

This fixture will be the club’s second Pink Round fixture of the 23/24 season, after our inaugural Women’s Pink Round took place in March, also when Adelaide visited Gosford, in the Liberty A-League.

This season is our first season proudly partnering with The McGrath Foundation, in a collective effort to raise essential funds to support families across Australia experiencing breast cancer.
