The Central Coast Mariners today unveiled their fresh new look for the AFC Champions League 2009 and future Hyundai A-League campaigns – a Hyundai A-League first playing strip that will see the Mariners represented by vertical stripes in iconic yellow and navy Central Coast colours.
Mariners captain and potential new AFC Champions League recruit Shane Huke today modeled the Mariners- new look at the scenic Norah Head Lighthouse, with each playing jersey design set to be showcased for the first time in a practical sense when the Mariners begin their maiden AFC Champions League quest in early March.
The Mariners will continue to wear their newly designed home playing strip throughout the Hyundai A-League 2009/10 season, albeit in a slightly modified capacity to fit with Hyundai A-League branding regulations.
While the new home strip is yellow and navy stripes in addition to predominantly navy shorts and socks, the away strip is almost entirely yellow, but features white shorts.
“We-re delighted with the outcome provided to us, which has come about after months of dialogue between ourselves, Football Federation Australia and Reebok – dialogue that was aimed at coming up with a design that was innovative and exciting, but also traditional and iconic to the Central Coast,” said Mariners Executive Chairman Lyall Gorman.
“By introducing stripes to the Mariners- match day image, we believe that we-ve come up with an enduring jersey design that will become identifiable across the country and internationally, where we will first showcase this look to a massive audience throughout Australia and Asia.”
The Mariners- third Finals Series campaign will begin with a blockbuster clash against the Queensland Roar in the Minor Semi Final – 1st Leg at Bluetongue Stadium on Friday, 6 February. Kick off is at 8pm.
