Central Coast Mariners have unveiled a new logo designed by a fan, for the fans, for Hyundai A-League season 10.
Central Coast Mariners held its first #MarinersFanForum of 2014 at Gosford-s Central Coast Leagues Club on Monday night, and at the end of the evening unveiled a new look logo for season ten of the Hyundai A-League.
The crest, designed by foundation supporter Tyson Peisley, was met with strong approval from over 200 fans at the event.
Fusing original Mariners themes with fresh ideas to demonstrate the Club-s decade of existence, the logo will be featured on team apparel and Club collateral through Hyundai A-League season 2014/15.
Following the event, we caught up with the passionate Tyson to find out how he came up with the logo, his thoughts on being asked to develop the design, and what ten years of Central Coast Mariners FC means to him.
CCM: Tyson, as a long-time, passionate supporter of the Club how do you feel to have had the opportunity to design the Mariners 10 Year logo?
TP: Very, very proud. When the Mariners first started it-s not something that I imagined ten years ahead. So it-s quite good to get the opportunity and fuse my passion for design with my passion for football as well.
CCM: What process did you go through to come up with the design?
TP: Lots and lots of sketches and then kind of filtering that down with the best ideas and then coming up with some presentations to present to the club. From there it was only a couple of tweaks with the one of the designs to come up with the final one, so it-s quite similar to the original design.
CCM: How important was it for you that this design incorporated existing elements of the Mariners branding?
TP: Extremely important because it had to relate to the Mariners- original logo to be relative otherwise it-s just a ten. Using the wave from the circle from the original logo was quite simple to bring that into the zero.
CCM: How do you think you-ll feel when you see a player score next season and kiss the badge that you came up with?
TP: It-s a good thought, it-s pretty cool. I don-t know if I-ll be thinking about the logo too much when we score a goal though – I-ll probably be too busy going crazy over the goal.
CCM: What does 10 Years of Mariners mean to you?
TP: Basically it-s been my whole life since leaving school, which is when the Mariners started. The ten years of the Mariners has made me enjoy football a lot more, it-s made me understand it a lot more, it-s made me a better player, and it-s made me a lot of friends as well. I think when it first started there was probably a lot of doubters that it would last and here we are ten years on and we are probably one of the most successful clubs around.
CCM: Finally, what do you think or hope other fans will think of the design?
TP: Hopefully they love it and embrace it. It was a fan that designed it so hopefully they feel some ownership with it, as well with the club. Hopefully they just love it!
CCM: Tyson Peisley, thanks very much for your time and congratulations on the design!
TP: Thanks very much, cheers!
