Central Coast Mariners’ fan favourite Josh Nisbet has signed a two year contract extension that will keep him on the Coast until 2024.
Nisbet, a versatile player that can play central midfield, as well as on the wing, joined the Mariners Academy before working his way through the ranks to make his first professional appearance in January 2019 against the Newcastle Jets.
Since then, he has gone on to become a recognisable figure across Australian football and has amassed more than 60 appearances for the Mariners in Isuzu UTE A-League football, netting his first goal away against the Jets in Round One of the past season.
Nisbet brings a lot to Montgomery’s team both on and off the field and he was an integral part of the side which broke numerous records.
After signing his new deal, Josh spoke about his love for the Central Coast Mariners family.
“It’s great to commit to another two years with the Mariners as I really enjoy playing my football here as well as living on the Coast.
“I want to thank Monty [Nick Montgomery] and Serg [Sergio Raimundo] for all that they have done in my development so far and I am excited to see what we can achieve in the next two years.
“I also want to say a special thank you to the fans, members and staff who continue to support myself and the team, and I am looking forward to playing in front of you once again” said Nisbet.
Mariners Head Coach Nick Montgomery addressed the impact that Nisbet has had this season.
“Josh has been a great asset to our team this season and we can only see his value increasing in the coming years.
“Both myself and the rest of the coaching staff are relishing the chance to work with Josh again and nurture his ability even further,” Montgomery added.
“It brings us great joy at the club to see him getting the recognition that he deserves with a call-up to the Australian U23 squad, and we hope that he can continue to inspire many with his never say die attitude.”
Josh will be in action tonight with the Australian U23’s at the AFC U23 Asian Cup as the Green and Gold look to get out of the group stage and into the knock-out stages and you can catch all of the action live on Paramount+ with kick off at 11pm AEST.
