Coming off the back of a narrow loss to Newcastle last weekend in our opening A-League Women’s match of the season, Head Coach Emily Husband is excited for the team’s first away trip of the campaign.
The squad has been working hard on the pitch over the past week to build off last Saturday’s performance, eager to put on an impressive display in South Australia.
“The girls have had a good last few days out on the pitch, we have ironed out a few things and have looked at how Adelaide play.
“In the first half last week the girls took a while to adjust to playing in front of such a big crowd. It was a great occasion and to see the support that we had; I think now it is just about them getting used to playing in front of that many people.
“In the second half we came out and were a lot braver. A lot braver in the press, and how we went forward with the ball. That was really pleasing to see and is what we want to build on for this week.”
Husband views tonight’s match as highly winnable, as the team look to continue on from last week’s second half display. Our Head Coach confident in the team’s ability against every side in the A-League Women’s competition.
“We will go into every game thinking that we can win because every game in this league is winnable,” Husband said.
“We took some great learnings from the second half against the Jets, and we want to make sure that we build out a bit better and retain possession better.”
Husband is however not underestimating Adelaide United, who are coming off a 4-all draw to Canberra United last weekend.
“They got off to a good start, scoring a few goals against Canberra on the weekend. No doubt they will be confident, but it is still early days for everybody,” she said.
“I know that everyone is still finding their feet so it will be anyone’s game.”
