Central Coast Mariners midfielder Harry Steele was a special guest at Terrigal High School on Tuesday morning.
Steele made an appearance as the club continued our 2024 Trophy Tour through local schools, visiting the school he attended prior to going full time with the Mariners at 16 years old.
Steele is a symbolic figure with our community connection, growing up in Terrigal, attending Terrigal High School, playing for Terrigal United as junior, before joining the Mariners at Academy level.
Now a back-to-back A-League Champion and record-breaking treble winner, heading into his fourth A-League season, Steeley was the perfect guest to welcome back, to present awards to Terrigal High School’s high achieving young athletes.
In a Q&A with students from years 7-10, Steele shared some of his story so far, expressed his gratitude to teachers at the school and revealed next season’s targets.
“It’s great to be back, seeing some familiar faces and some new faces. It’s been an exciting year for the club and myself, being a local boy coming from Terrigal High and the Mariners Academy, to be able to win the treble for the first time in Australian football history has been pretty amazing.” Steele said.
“My dream was to play at Central Coast Stadium, to be able to do that you have to sacrifice a fair bit, going out on weekends, missing out on seeing friends, travelling a lot, there is a lot of sacrifice but it has all been worth it.”
“There are a few faces in this room who have helped me out a lot, the teachers and my friends here helped me through school. Then of course my Mum and Dad, by biggest supporters, they drove me to Sydney nearly every weekend.”
“The goal is to win three Championships in a row. We are in the AFC Champions League Elite too which is going to be an unreal experience.”
“The three-peat has never been done in Australian football history so to be able to create some more history will be amazing. It’s obviously going to be tough, there will be a lot of teams coming for us, but that’s the goal.” Steele said.
Students finished with some more quick-fire questions to Harry, including his best mate in the squad and his dream signing at Central Coast Mariners, to which he answered Storm Roux and Kylian Mbappé!
