Fans encouraged to wear yellow & navy for Footy Colours Day

While the Central Coast Mariners always love seeing a sea of yellow and navy in the stands when they take to the field in the Hyundai A-League, tonight, wearing team colours will take on extra significance.

As well as being the first ever A-League game to be played in Canberra, the Mariners round five clash with Perth Glory also falls on Footy Colours Day, an initiative of the Fight Cancer Foundation, to get people to war their footy colours to school or work, as well as of course Canberra Stadium, and give generously to a worthy cause.

“There are very few people out there who haven-t been touched in some way by Cancer, and it doesn-t discriminate. This is a great chance to wear your footy colours and have a bit of fun, while doing some good by helping fight cancer,” said Mariners striker and Footy Colours Day ambassador Dylan Macallister.

“We-d love to see a crowd full of Mariners colours at Canberra Stadium, and encourage all our fans to dig deep and help the cause,” Macallister said.

Football is about spirit, strength and the fight to win. Those touched by cancer share a similar journey and need the same strength and courage to win their individual fight.

Thousands of Australians unite and don their favourite football team-s colours to help raise money for children living with cancer.

Wear Mariners colours, jersey, scarf, beanie and make a donation to the Fight Cancer Foundation, we-re even happy for your friends to wear the colours of rival teams or codes to the office or school, if it means they donate to such a worthy cause!

While the official Footy Colours Day is Friday 4 September 2009, if this does not fit into your internal calendar of events, any day around this date can be used.

Footy Colours Day is easy to organise, lots of fun and a great opportunity for corporates, small business, government, schools, clubs and local communities to band together.
