Australian national team goalkeeper Danny Vukovic has returned to the Central Coast Mariners for the upcoming Isuzu UTE A-League campaign.
The experienced keeper played for the Mariners from 2005 to 2010 making a total of 104 appearances for the club.
Vukovic has enjoyed an illustrious career so far which has featured stints in Turkey, Japan, Belgium and Netherlands as well as featuring in Australian national team squads at the 2018 FIFA World Cup and 2019 AFC Asian Cup.
The 37-year-old has kept a total of 85 clean sheets in the Isuzu UTE A-League and is also the only goalkeeper to score a goal in competition history.
Head Coach Nick Montgomery spoke about his delight to see Vukovic returning to the club.
“Bringing Danny back to the club is a massive signing for us on and off the pitch. He is a top class goalkeeper and a great person who will add so much value and experience to this young squad,” said Montgomery.
“He has played at the highest level in Europe, is a real family man and is well known in our community. To bring him home to play in Australia and hopefully help him make selection for the World Cup at the end of the year would be a special thing.”
Vukovic will be a part of the squad who begin the 2022/23 Isuzu UTE A-League season at home Newcastle Jets on Saturday, October 8th.
