COAST TO THE WORLD: THREE MARINERS SELECTED FOR JOEYS WORLD CUP SQUAD

The Central Coast Mariners are proud to congratulate Oliver O’Carroll, Luke Becvinovski and Callum McCaskey on their selection in the CommBank Joeys squad for the FIFA U-17 World Cup Qatar 2026. The standby squad also includes Mariners’ own, Aston Reid.

Head Coach Carl Veart has named the 21-player CommBank Joeys squad, as Australia returns to the tournament for the first time in seven years.

Veart has selected a squad blending emerging talent with players gaining valuable senior football experience, as Australia prepares to compete on the world stage for the first time since the FIFA U-17 World Cup Brazil 2019™, where the CommBank Joeys reached the Round of 16.

Australia secured its place at the tournament after a strong campaign at the AFC U17 Asian Cup Saudi Arabia 2026™, reaching the semi-finals for the first time since 2018, highlighted by a 3-0 quarter-final win over Vietnam.

The Mariners trio will represent Australia on one of youth football’s biggest stages, taking the next step in their football journeys while carrying the pride and support of the Mariners family.

The tournament will run from 19 November to 13 December 2026, bringing together 48 nations to compete for the world title in Qatar.

For O’Carroll, Becvinovski and McCaskey, selection is a significant achievement and recognition of the work, commitment and ambition required to earn the opportunity to wear the green and gold.

It is also a moment to celebrate the people behind each player: the families, junior clubs, coaches and teammates who have supported their development and helped make this opportunity possible.

Midfielder O’Carroll, attacker Becvinovski and defender McCaskey will each bring their own qualities to the Australian squad as they prepare to test themselves against international opposition.

For McCaskey, the journey carries a particularly strong local connection. From his beginnings at Terrigal United to developing through the Mariners Academy, his selection gives young footballers across the Central Coast another example of where their own ambitions could lead.

Having three players selected is a proud moment for the Club and reflects the Mariners’ commitment to providing opportunities for emerging footballers to develop, take responsibility and pursue the highest levels of the game.

The World Cup will offer the trio valuable experience in a demanding tournament environment, with the chance to learn, compete and represent their country against some of the best players in their age group.

For the young supporters watching from the Coast, there will be three familiar faces to follow — and three more reasons to dream about what might be possible.

The Central Coast Mariners congratulate Oliver, Luke and Callum, along with everyone who has contributed to their journeys, and wish the entire CommBank Joeys squad every success in Qatar.

Three Mariners. One world stage. The Coast is behind you.
