The Central Coast Mariners- Westfield W-League campaign has been given the shot in the arm it needed at Hindmarsh Stadium tonight, with the visiting Mariners thumping Adelaide United 6-0.
The largest winning margin in the short history of the Westfield W-League was confirmed after braces from Mariners trio Trudy Camilleri, Jenna Kingsley and Kyah Simon – the spread of goals from minute 35 through to 83 reflective of the Mariners- utter dominance.
Luckless in recent weeks and without a win in three, the Mariners- triumph over the Reds has reinvigorated a campaign that had somewhat stalled since Round 4-s loss to the Queensland Roar at Campbelltown Stadium.
The Mariners are now within touching distance of the Westfield W-League top four and a reasonable chance to qualify for the first ever Westfield W-League Finals Series with three rounds still to play.
“We-ve been saying it for the past few weeks, we-ve just needed the bounce of the ball to go our way and we-ll score a barrage of goals and that-s what happened today,” said Mariners Westfield W-League Head Coach Stephen Roche after the match.
“I couldn-t fault any player out there for us, we controlled the game, our intensity and tempo was tremendous throughout and in the end we thoroughly deserved the result.”
The Mariners- Westfield W-League campaign continues against Canberra United at Parramatta Stadium on Saturday, 13 December. Kick off is at 6pm and admission to the match is free.
