After a week of intensive preparation at the Australian Institute of Sport, the Central Coast Mariners return to the Coast this week to face the best the FMS Men-s Premier League has to offer at Pluim Park on Wednesday night.
Following a clash between combined sides from the Wyong Shire and Gosford City based clubs last month, Central Coast Football has selected a “Central Coast Select XI” to tackle the Yellow and Navy in a match which is making its return to the Mariners- Pre-Season calendar for the first time since the build up to the maiden Hyundai A-League campaign.
One player who featured five years ago was Mariners- striker Matt Simon. Then plying his trade with East Gosford, he will be on the opposing side this time around.
“It was a big buzz playing against the Mariners back then and I-m sure the local boys will feel the same,” said Simon.
“It-ll be good for them to show what they are capable of and it-s always good for us to get back to the community too.
“We had a good week in Canberra, the boys are buzzing training under Arnie (Head Coach Graham Arnold) and at our new training ground at Tuggerah,” said Simon.
Current Mariners Football and Commercial Operations Manager Lawrie McKinna will make a return to the coaching dugout for the clash, as he assists Select Coach John McLafferty prepare the local boys for the hit-out against their Hyundai A-League opponents.
The Central Coast Select XI take on Central Coast Mariners this Wednesday, 14 July at Pluim Park, Lisarow, Kick-off at 7:00pm. Gates open at 6:00pm and tickets are $5 for adults, kids under 16 FREE (No Concession).
Mariners Memberships for the Hyundai A-League 2010/11 season will be available to purchase on the night, or alternately via the web by Clicking Here or by phoning 1300 767 442.
