Central Coast Mariners left-back Marc Warren has become the first Mariners player to benefit long term from the club’s relationship with Sheffield United, earning a two-year deal with the English Championship Club.

After impressing during a two-week trial late last year, Warren will move to Northern England this week to begin his time with the ex Premier League club.
“It-s an amazing opportunity,” said Warren.
“I learned so much just during the two weeks I was there and I can-t wait for this experience.”
The 19-year-old arrived at the Mariners this season from the Australian Institute of Sport, and while he is yet to experience first team football with the Yellow and Navy, Mariners Head Coach Graham Arnold is confidence the diminutive defender will do well at one of England-s Premier clubs.
“Waz is a fantastic kid,” said Arnold.
“He always puts 110% in at training and loves his football, he-s great to have around the squad and I-m sure his football talent will only improve being around such a professional setup as Sheffield-s.”
The signing is yet another significant example of the close relationship between the two clubs, which has also seen the likes of Trent Sainsbury and former Mariners- ‘keeper Andrew Redmayne trial with the Yorkshire based Blades, while coaching and administration education has also been shared between the two clubs.
“It-s a fantastic opportunity for Marc and I know he is really excited,” said Mariners Chairman Peter Turnbull.
“The club is excited too because it-s just another vindication of the youth policy we have embarked upon this season.
“I-d like to thank (Sheffield United Chairman) Kevin McCabe and (Manager) Micky Adams for not only showing faith in Marc but also recognising the talent of youngsters here at the Mariners and in Australia.
“I-m delighted that our relationship continues to strengthen.”
