CANCER Council NSW is calling on communities across the Central Coast region to contribute to a brighter, cancer-free future by volunteering, donating or selling merchandise on Daffodil Day, Friday 24 August.
Daffodil Day Ambassadors for 2012 include Lawrie McKinna and Central Coast Mariners players John Hutchinson and Tom Rogic, who know too well that cancer is a disease that doesn-t discriminate.
āWe all know someone with cancer and for me, it-s very close to home,ā McKinna said.
āIn the Central Coast region alone around 2,050 people will be diagnosed with cancer this year. This is a scary number but one Cancer Council NSW can beat with enough support and funding.ā
āThe boys and I encourage anyone who has a few spare hours to give the girls a call at the Cancer Council-s Erina Fair office and sign up to help out on the 24th of August.ā
Sarah Russell from Cancer Council NSW Central Coast office said this year over 226 volunteers are needed for Daffodil Day events across the region.
āMen, women, families and schools – Cancer Council NSW is urging the local community to put up their hands and volunteer for Daffodil Day. From distributing merchandise boxes to setting up stalls and selling daffodils – we need everyone-s help to provide hope to the hundreds of people fighting cancer in our community,ā Russell said.
āEvery donation and daffodil sold counts. The community-s contribution will help Cancer Council reach its 2012 national fundraising target of $9.2 million towards cancer research, education and support, including local services such as community transport, health preventive programs and the local HUB at Erina Fair which connects cancer patients and their families and friends to information and support.ā
