WITH just one day until Central Coast opens its Hyundai A-League campaign, we decided to take a look at the first ever player to take the field for the Mariners – respected goalkeeping coach and video analyst John Crawley.

Crawley signed for Central Coast for the inaugural Hyundai A-League season, making 13 competitive appearances for the yellow and navy before he was forced to hang up his gloves due to injury.

Indeed, Crawley kept goal for Central Coast in the Clubs- first ever competitive game – a FIFA Club World Cup qualifying fixture against northern foes Newcastle Jets. With the score locked at 0-0 after full-time, Crawley kept his nerve in the dreaded shoot-out to help the Mariners win 4-2 on penalties.

The former gloveman has remained an integral part of the Mariners as goalkeeping coach and video analyst. He has played a telling role in the development of some of Australia-s top goalkeeping talent with the likes of Mathew Ryan, Danny Vukovic, Adam Federici and Andrew Redmayne having all been mentored by the likeable and knowledgeable former custodian.

Crawley holds an impressive resume on both a playing and coaching level. He spent five years with Chilean club Colo Colo before returning to the NSW Premier League, where he appeared for Blacktown City and Macarthur Rams.

John Crawley – one of the best in the business and a key member of the Mariners- brains trust!
