Storm Roux signs 2 year contract extension with Central Coast Mariners

The Central Coast Mariners are delighted to announce that Storm Roux has signed a two-year contract extension, keeping him at Our Paradise until the end of the 2025/26 Isuzu UTE A-League season.

Storm needs no introduction to Mariners faithful; the right back is now into his eighth season with the club across two spells and recently hit the 150 Mariners A-League appearance milestone.

An A-League Champion with the Mariners, Roux played 78 minutes of our memorable Grand Final win over Melbourne City back in June, the game which he cites as his favourite of his career so far.

This season, Roux has started every Isuzu UTE A-League game bar the opening two fixtures, showing his consistency and reliability, just two of the reasons he has been rewarded with this new deal.

Roux’s stand out moment this season came last month, as he popped up with a crucial goal in our F3 Derby victory over Newcastle Jets at Our Paradise, opening the scoring just before half time in the memorable 3-1 win.

ā€œItā€™s exciting, Iā€™ve been at the club a long time and I grew up here so itā€™s exciting to get an extra two years,ā€ Roux said.

ā€œWe have something exciting going on under [Mark Jackson] with good young players coming through, with a mix of some experienced players.ā€

ā€œWeā€™ve found a good run of form lately and hopefully we can continue that for the rest of the season, so itā€™s exciting to be on board for two more years.ā€

Roux initially made the move to the Mariners from Perth Glory in 2013. He departed for a spell with Melbourne Victory in 2018 but returned to the Coast in 2021.

ā€œI moved here at 20 and Iā€™m now 30, so Iā€™ve done a lot of growing up on the Coast and played essentially my whole career here, so to be part of the Mariners club and culture for the amount of time I have done means heaps,ā€ he said.

ā€œTo go and wear the shirt with pride and be part of this club is a great feeling.ā€

The 30-year-old is the second oldest player (after Danny Vukovic) in a young Mariners dressing room, Storm’s leadership skills are something that Jackson values greatly.

ā€œItā€™s exciting times because a lot of these boys have bright futures, so to be able to help them in any way I can is a big responsibility and I love doing it.ā€

The right back touched on his favourite memory so far at the Mariners, as well as his ambitions for the future.

ā€œDefinitely the Grand Final win [is my favourite memory], it makes all the tough times weā€™ve had at the club worth it.

ā€œI just want to help this club get more success. Another Grand Final win would be amazing, and I want to help the young boys come through.ā€

Mariners Football Manager Mark Jackson is thrilled to have the experienced defender signed on for an additional two years, seeing him as an important leader within the group.

ā€œWe are really pleased to have secured Storm for a further two seasons. Since I joined the club, he has been a real leader in the group and his performances have gotten better and better,ā€ Jackson said.

ā€œNot only is it what he does on the pitch but what he does off it with the group and the dressing room. To have someone who knows what it is to be a Mariner and knows the culture of the club is really important for us. If he can continue this current form, it will be really beneficial to the team long term.ā€
