New Central Coast Mariners attacking recruit Kim Seung-yong touched down in Sydney this morning, ready and eager to commence his one-and-a-half year tenure with the Club.
Kim and his representatives were greeted by Central Coast Mariners Head Coach Phil Moss at Sydney International Airport, before the former Ulsan Hyundai ace joined another of the Club-s recent signings, Eddy Bosnar, for media commitments with Hyundai A-League Host Broadcaster Fox Sports.
On arrival in Sydney, Kim — with the assistance of a translator — said he is excited by the fresh challenge he has in the Hyundai A-League.
“Central Coast Mariners wanted me,” Kim said. “I wanted to take a new challenge in my football career, and I am joining a club that will play in the ACL (AFC Champions League).”
“(But) even if Central Coast Mariners didn-t play ACL matches, I would have made this choice to come to Australia, because this Club really wanted me and I really wanted to take this challenge.”
Kim described himself as an all-action style of a player, and said he hopes he can make the Mariners fans happy.
“I am very mobile and active on the pitch,” he said. “I-d like to make the fans happy, because I run a lot.”
“First of all I want to follow what Mr Moss wants and learn his style. Then I will add my own style, my speed and technique, and support the team as much as possible.”
“When I heard about the offer from the Mariners I started to Google the Club and found out the history and record,” he said.
Central Coast Mariners boss Moss said he believes Kim possesses the right qualities to help the Club on and off the pitch.
“As soon as Kim-s footage was presented to me I saw his qualities straight away,” Moss said. “We did a lot of due diligence on Kim as a player and a person, and everything we heard back was very positive.”
“I think it is a landmark day for the Hyundai A-League and definitely the Central Coast Mariners to have a player of Kim-s quality in standing in Asian football join us.”
“I stand here today very proud to be the coach that-s been able to bring, with the help of my Club, a top quality Asian player to the Hyundai A-League,” he said.
Central Coast Mariners are currently working to finalise Kim-s International Transfer Clearance (ITC).
Kim will undertake his medical at the Club-s Centre of Excellence in Tuggerah tomorrow morning, and is due to train with his new teammates for the first time from 9:30am on Wednesday.
