Your chance to be the Hyundai A-League’s 5-millionth fan!

Just days short of the Hyundai A-League-s fourth birthday, the competition is set to welcome its five-millionth fan through the turnstiles this weekend, and there is a great chance the honour could be bestowed on one lucky Mariners supporter.

With 4,987,839 already attending Hyundai A-League matches since the Mariners beat Perth Glory 1-nil in the codes historic first ever contest, all it will take is 12,161 fans to reach the magical milestone this weekend.

Should the crowd figure in Adelaide United-s Friday night clash against Gold Coast United come in less than that, the five-million barrier will be broken by one lucky fan, at Bluetongue Stadium in the Central Coast-s derby with Sydney FC on Saturday.

“We-re urging all Central Coast fans to come out in force, and get to Bluetongue Stadium early this Saturday, to give themselves the best chance of becoming the league-s five-millionth supporter,” said Mariners Executive Chairman Lyall Gorman.

“It should be another fantastic afternoon for football, and with both sides unbeaten the match is sure to be a treat for both sets of supporters.

“We had fantastic support against Newcastle on Friday, 9,573 was our second highest ever opening day attendance, and we-re confident of exceeding that on Saturday.

And to help celebrate, “number 5 million” will win a trip for two to Melbourne to see Australia’s ‘do or die’ AFC Asian Cup qualifier against Oman on Wednesday, 14 October.

“Football Federation Australia has offered up a fantastic prize for the five-millionth fan, and we-d love nothing more than for one of our Members or supporters to benefit. We look forward to seeing another healthy crowd this Saturday, hopefully featuring a lucky winner,” Gorman said.

The Mariners next home match of the Hyundai A-League 2009/10 season against local rival Sydney FC is this Saturday, 22 August. Kick-off is at 3pm. Tickets are available online here or by phoning 132 849.
