In an action packed second half, kick-started by a goal to Peter Kekeris the Central Coast Mariners Youth fell 3-1 to the Newcastle Jets Youth.
Andrew Hoole, Adam Pearce, Mario Shabow, Jordan Murray and Peter Kekeris featured in a Central Coast Mariners youth side eager to continue on from last week’s victory.
The first ten minutes of the half was a battle for possession as both sides fought to find a rhythm in the game. The Mariners youth created a great chance early in the half after a Shabow shot forced a save from Italiano. The game started to open up throughout the half with both sides creating several opportunities with the Mariners youth having the best chance through Jordan Murray whose header grazed the crossbar.
As the half carried on both sides struggled to get a hold of the game. Several counter attacks were created with the Jets Youth having the best chance of the half with a point-blank effort denied by a great save by Adam Pearce.
The half concluded with both teams even with Matthew Hatch and Mario Shabow impressing for the Central Coast Mariners youth.
The second half followed the same pattern as the first with both sides having several counter attacks. It wasn’t until halfway through the half when Peter Kekeris put the Mariners Youth ahead after a dazzling run beating several Jets youth defenders.
Pearce made an acrobatic save to keep the Jets youth goalless. The Jets youth equalised after a clearance by Pearce was charged down by Cai Tipaldo. The Jets youth took the lead soon after with a free kick converted by Nick Cowburn.
The Mariners youth found themselves down for the last 15 minutes but never gave up, pushing to try and find an equaliser in the latter stages of the game.
Lewis Italiano was forced into an impressive double save after a shot from Josh Nisbet was parried to Mikey Katsoulis who just missed the follow up. The Mariners youth found themselves 3-1 down after Cai Tipaldo fired into in an open goal. This would remain the full-time score line.
The Mariners Youth, with a win and a loss to their name, prepare to face the Western Sydney Wanderers Youth away at Marconi Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
