Central Coast Mariners have today announced the expansion of the partnership with the University of Newcastle to include the Women’s and Academy programs.
The expansion of the agreement follows the Women’s team returning to the Liberty A-League competition for the 2023/24 season.
Central Coast Mariners Women’s starlet Annalise Rasmussen is currently studying a Bachelor of Exercise and Sports Science at the University of Newcastle. On the partnership that will now see our Liberty A-League team supported by her university, she said:
“It is incredible to hear that the University of Newcastle has come onboard as a sponsor of our Liberty A-League team. As a student at the University and a player in the team it is amazing to see them supporting us this season as we return to the Liberty A-League competition,” Rasmussen said.
“My time at the University of Newcastle so far has been incredible and I want to thank them for their support both in the classroom and on the pitch.”
Professor Kent Anderson, Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Global at the University of Newcastle said the expansion of the partnership would provide opportunities for both players and current students.
“It was a natural extension of the partnership to include the women’s team and we are really proud to be supporting them in their return to the Liberty A-League competition,” Professor Anderson said.
“Through the partnership, Mariners players will receive support and advice on their study options to help them thrive both on and off the field. The partnership will also see University students undertake Career-ready placements with the Central Coast Mariners, giving them real-world experience in a professional sporting organisation.”
The University of Newcastle ranks in the top 175 universities in the world and has remained committed to the Central Coast for more than 30 years. Just last week, the University announced the start of construction on its new $63.8m Central Coast campus in Mann Street, Gosford.
