It was a weekend to remember for both academy sides with the academy women winning both their games within 24 hours and a Jordan Smylie hattrick securing a win for the men’s side.

UNSW FC 0 Central Coast Mariners Academy Women 3 (Mcatamney 15’, Wise 61’, Blanch 66’)

St George FC 0 Central Coast Mariners Academy Women 9 (Mcatamney 3’, 35’, Oliveira 11’, Snape 17’, 82’, Blanch 22’, Wise 40’, 67’, 80’)

The girls made the most of their round 2 make up game against St George as they strolled to an incredible 9-0 victory. Danielle Wise picked up a wonderful hattrick while Iona Snape and Jade Mcatamney both grabbed a brace.

After a resounding victory, the women then had to take on a UNSW FC side that were also struggling for form. It was shaping up to be a difficult game for the team, being their second game within 24 hours but Jade Mcatamney picked up where she left off as she opened the scoring in the 15th minute. It was a tight first half with the girls starting to feel the fatigue, but they managed to keep their lead into the break.

The second half followed the same pattern as the first and the experienced Danielle Wise continued her scoring form as she doubled the girls lead in the 61st minute. It didn’t take long for the girls to grab a third as Gabrielle Blanch scored her 5th goal in 5 games for the women’s academy. The three goals were enough for the girls to see through to the full time whistle.

The two wins this weekend sees the academy girls jump into the top 6 and only two points out from the top 4. They will be wanting to carry the momentum from this weekend into next as they take on Western NSW Mariners next Sunday.

It was a brilliant five minutes for the men’s academy as both Aidan Taouil and Kyle Johnson grabbed goals of their own. The first half dominance by the men was capped off with a fourth goal as Smylie grabbed his second in the 41st minute.
