NPL Previews: Women kick-off Finals Football

In the NPL 2 this weekend, our women are launching straight into their finals campaign with a tough hit out against SD Raiders FC in the Preliminary Semi-Final, whilst the men are travelling south to face North Shore Mariners. Both fixtures are on Sunday.

Preliminary Semi Finals: Central Coast Mariners’ Academy Women vs. SD Raiders FC

Last week, the women’s first grade team capped off an impressive season in style, with a 5-2 victory over the Gladesville Ravens, a win which should give them plenty of confidence for their semi-final clash with SD Raiders FC.

It’s second vs. third in the Preliminary Semi-Final, but despite finishing 10 points ahead of the Raiders on the competition ladder, the Mariners Academy is yet to lodge a win against them – something that the Academy will be keen to change.

A win will keep their five-game unbeaten streak alive, and put them straight through to the Major Semi-Final to face Sydney Olympic FC.

There was also success across the board for the Mariners’ Academy women, with all grades qualifying for the finals.

  • Reserve Grade vs. Marconi Stallions FC (Saturday 4:45pm)
  • U17’s vs. UNSW FC (Sunday 11:45am)
  • U15’s vs. Sydney Olympic FC (Saturday 10am)
  • U14’s vs Southern Branch FC (Sunday 8:30am)

North Shore Mariners FC vs. Central Coast Mariners’ Academy

Central Coast Mariners v Central Coast Football Select Pre-Season friendly

With only three rounds remaining before the end of the season, the Mariners’ Academy men have some tough games ahead that will be crucial to keeping their promotion hopes alive. This Sunday, they take on fourth-placed North Shore Mariners FC at Northbridge Oval.

The Mariners’ Academy will hope to bounce back after a loss last week to Mt Druitt that put them down to third place on the competition ladder. They’re only one point behind St George FC, but if they want to reclaim second place they’ll have to claim a win against the North Shore Mariners, who are only three points behind the Mariners Academy.

Last time they took on the North Shore, the Mariners Academy claimed a 6-1 victory at Pluim Park. That should lend confidence to the Academy’s performance on the weekend.

The remaining games of the season will be a tight home clash against 2nd placed St George FC, and an away fixture against 8th placed Hills United FC.
