Central Coast Mariners Academy vs. Gladesville Hornsby Spirit FC
If you’re looking for a football fix this weekend, get down to Pluim Park on Saturday to watch the Mariners Academy take on Gladesville Hornsby Spirit FC. Kick-off is 4pm and entry is FREE!
It’s been a largely successful season for the Mariners Academy senior men who currently remain 37 points clear atop the Club Championship.
In great news for the Mariners Academy, positive on field performances have resulted in a raft of players being involved with Mike Mulvey’s Hyundai A-League Pre-Season.
Last week the Mariners Academy boys dug deep to earn a 3-0 win away over the Macarthur Rams thanks to a brace by Matias Paz and a strike to Aamir Abdullah.
Will Vazquez noted the importance of player development in an academy environment, compared to results.
“Last weekend’s match was a very pleasing performance in what we knew would be a tough clash,” Vazquez said. “There were some great opportunities for players to step up and take ownership and we saw that by many of them.
“The key message has been to keep working each day and focus on continuing to improve, with results coming as a consequence of this.
“Spirit are a very tough side with some quality individuals that we will have to be aware of, however the group is confident that if we maintain our performance and standards we can achieve what we are aiming for,” Vazquez said

Nepean FC Women vs. Central Coast Mariners Academy Women
Dan Barrett’s women’s team were set to host a crucial clash last weekend against Sydney Olympic but were washed out.
After a week off, they are now faced with an away trip to the 7th placed Nepean FC.
With a game in hand, sitting in second place on both the first-grade league ladder and club championship the Mariners Academy are faced with a prime opportunity to stay in promotion contention.
“This week is a tough test for us on the road to a desperate Nepean side who are lurking in finals contention,” Barrett said. “Our depth is tested this week once again with injuries to some key personnel but we have good depth to provide cover.
“We are looking forward to playing and keeping the pressure on Sydney Olympic in the race to for the Club Championship and minor premiership,”
