If you are looking for a football fix this weekend, Pluim Park will be hosting our Mens and Womens academy teams this Sunday as both sides make a push for the finals.

Central Coast Mariners Academy  Men vs. North Shore Mariners

After a resounding victory away from home last week, the men’s academy returns to Pluim Park to take on league leaders North Shore Mariners.

This game is the first of six home games in eight weeks for Nick Montgomery’s side as they chase the top six in the NPL 2. Jordan Smylie took his tally to seven for the season after his brace last week; Aidan Taouil also found his second and third of the season after his double. Montgomery will be pleased with the firepower shown up front in last week’s win as well as a solid defensive effort. The men’s academy sits in eighth spot in a tightly contested table where only four points separate sixth and tenth.

It has been a terrific season for the North Shore Mariners, who have only lost one match in their last thirteen games. They possess the second top goal scorer in the league with Mitchell Smith who has scored fifteen goals this season. The North Shore Mariners are one of two teams to have scored in every game this season with winger Chris Lindsay also getting a number of assists.

It is always a tight affair when these two teams play with current bragging rights belonging to North Shore Mariners after their 2-1 win earlier this season. The academy boys know that any slip up now may cost them a finals appearance come the end of the season.

Last week’s academy side: Aidan Munford (GK), Maximilien Balard, Alec Vinci, Lewis Miller, Matthew Hatch, Bilal Belkadi, Kyle Johnson, Dylan Ruiz-Diaz, Michael Katsoulis, Aidan Taouil, Jordan Smylie

Central Coast Mariners Academy Women vs. Gladesville Rangers

It is a top five clash this weekend as fifth place Mariners take on second place Gladesville Rangers as both teams look to solidify their place in the final’s positions.

Dan Barrett’s side have been in a rich vein of form in the past several weeks and look to use the confidence that has been built against what will be a tough opposition. Danielle Wise currently sits in fourth place on the NPL 2 top goal scorers list, but she is not the only player finding the net on a consistent basis with Gabrielle Blanch and Jade Mcatamney both on seven for the season. The academy girls will have to be at the top of their game if they want to take points away on Sunday afternoon.

Gladesville are coming off a superb 9-0 victory over Inter Lions last week and have proven to be a difficult opponent this season. The Ravens not only boast a superb front third but have also been solid in defence, having only conceded eleven goals all season. Emily Diaz will be the major threat for the women’s academy, having netted sixteen times in only twelve games.

The academy girls managed to put in a tough and gritty performance last time these two met in a 0-0 draw. Dan Barrett will be hoping for all three points come this Sunday.

Last week’s academy side: Rhiannon Hines (GK), Gabrielle Blanch, Leisel Collins, Nina Collins, Jordyn Drysdale, Jade Mcatamney, Brooke Miller, Kaitlin Murphy, Elizabeth Shorter, Mikala Tucker, Danielle Wise
