Nkololo ready for important trip to Brisbane

Central Coast Mariners forward Beni Nkololo is excited for this weekend’s away trip to Brisbane, eager to secure an important three points on the road.

The Frenchman, who joined the club at the beginning of last season, has scored four times so far this campaign, taking part in 14 matches to date. Nkololo disappointed that the side were unable to secure the victory over Sydney FC last weekend.

“We felt pretty disappointed after the game because we know any match against Sydney FC is going to be tough. We know that it is going to be a fight,” he said.

“Going into half time leading 2-1, I think we had a good chance to make 3-1 shortly after. At 3-1 the game could have been different. Unfortunately, we didn’t score it and went on to lose the match.”

Nkololo clear that both he and the side will learn from the mistakes made last Saturday afternoon, with the team determined to make amends against Brisbane.

“We should have managed the game a bit better, but now it is done, time to learn from those mistakes and move on,” he said.

“We have been training hard this week, learning from the mistakes we made. Our full focus is now on Brisbane, and we will do anything to secure those three points.”

Nkololo is undefeated against Brisbane, with the Mariners completing a 2-0 clean sweep over the Queensland side last season. 2-1 and 2-0 victories secured the six total points, with the Frenchman playing the entire 180 possible minutes, scoring one goal.

Despite his personal impressive history against the Roar, Nkololo is clear that neither he nor the side are taking Brisbane lightly.

The Roar have conceded the third least number of goals in the competition so far this season, with the forward heading to the Sunshine state confident in both his and the sides ability to change that record and bring home the victory.

“Brisbane is a very disciplined team who are very dangerous. We expect a big fight this weekend, and we are very prepared for it,” he said.

“We go there with full power and full confidence.”

The Central Coast Mariners take on Brisbane Roar tomorrow night, with kick-off scheduled for 7:45pm. The match can be watched on Paramount+ or at one of our partner venues.
