Central Coast Mariners secured their first three points of the Hyundai A-League 2014/15 season courtesy of a 1-0 win over arch-rivals Newcastle Jets in Gosford on Saturday.

Mitchell Duke scored the game’s only goal in the 92nd minute as the Mariners sent their northern foes home empty handed.

The yellow and navy – who will wear all pink kits in support of women’s cancer research, prevention and support services next Hyundai A-League round – will return to Central Coast Stadium this weekend when Wellington Phoenix, and former Mariner Michael McGlinchey, arrives in town.

Phil Moss’s side will be seeking to consolidate their strong start to the campaign by earning more points against Ernie Merrick’s charges on the banks of the Brisbane Water.

Phoenix started their season by suffering a 2-1 loss at home to Perth Glory – they’ll no doubt be desperate not to lose touch with the ladder leaders even in the early stages of the new campaign.

Central Coast Mariners are also in Westfield FFA Cup action this week, with Moss’s team travelling to Queensland to take on Palm Beach Sharks at Cbus Super Stadium, Robina on Tuesday evening.
