MICHAEL McGlinchey-s 2012 London Olympic adventure is over following New Zealand-s 3-0 defeat to competition heavyweights Brazil in Newcastle overnight.

Playing at the home of the ‘Toon Army-, St James- Park, McGlinchey and co couldn-t quite match the star-studded, brilliant Brazilians.

First half goals to Danilo and Leandro Damiao, combined with a 52nd minute effort from Tottenham-s Sandro, ensured the South Americans topped the group ahead of second-placed Egypt.

The Africans, who the Olywhites held to a 1-1 draw at Old Trafford a few days ago, defeated Belarus 3-1 to ensure their passage to the quarterfinals.

Mariner McGlinchey, 25, played every minute of New Zealand-s 2012 Olympic campaign, and will undoubtedly return to the Central Coast flush with experiences and stories to tell having shared a pitch with the likes of Thiago Silva, Marcelo, Oscar, Neymar and Alexandre Pato.
