The run down:

The Central Coast Mariners cruised to a comfortable 7-0 win over the Western NSW Mariners FC on Thursday evening in Orange. The match featured as a warm up for Sunday’s blockbuster in Orange that is also set to be played at Wade Park in NSW’s Central West.

A hat-trick to Dan Heffernan, brace to Fabio Ferreira, a goal each to Harry Ascroft and Josh Bingham puts the Mariners in a great position heading into Sunday’s #F3Derby.

An interesting move was made in the second half that saw Liam Reddy switch teams to put the gloves on for Western who earned his keep in between the sticks with a clean sheet.

Full attention now switches to Sunday’s main event that kicks off at 3:00pm. Call 6393 8111 to pre-purchase your tickets.

GOALS:

7’ HEFFERNAN GOAL: The cracking pre-season form of our newest recruit continued with the match’s opener. A precision cross was whipped into the box, Heffernan found the ball at his feet and made no mistake with the finish.

9’ ASCROFT GOAL: The young centre back pushed forward for a set piece and timed his run to perfection. The cross was sent into the mixer but it was our new centre back who leapt above the pack to head home with style.

16’ FERREIRA GOAL: Bingham pushed hard into the Western NSW Mariners’ box who looked strong heading towards goal before being brought down illegally in the 18 yard box. It was our Portuguese flyer who stepped up for the spot kick and nestled in the corner with ease.

20’ FERREIRA GOAL (2): Danger man, Dan Heffernan had a one-on-one opportunity that was denied by the keeper, Ferreira was Johnny on the spot with his follow up and belted the spoils home to make it 4-0.

32’ HEFFERNAN GOAL (2): The fancy feet of Glen Trifiro lead to Heffernan’s second goal of the night with another close range goal. The Manchester born striker picked up possession on the edge of the six-yard-box and dispatched his shot into the back of the net.

37’ HEFFERNAN GOAL (3): Just like he did against the Western Sydney Wanderers in Coffs Harbour, Heff bagged himself a pre-season hat trick in a very short space of time. Mitch Austin sent in an impressive cross from the left to put Heffernan in the box seat.

42’ BINGHAM GOAL: Josh Bingham bagged an impressive goal from just outside the box. After picking up possession in a dangerous area Bingham belted home from distance to round out the first half.
