Central Coast Mariners are back in Ninja A-League action on Friday evening as they make the trip to Victoria to take on Western United.
Emily Husband’s team will be looking to back-up a fine opening day victory over Sydney FC with their first points on the road. In their way is a Western United team who also put in a blistering Round One performance.
Western defeated Wellington Pheonix 4-2 at Ironbark on Ninja A-League opening night last Friday, with star player and captain Chloe Logarzo on target twice.
A scintillating first half saw Pheonix start strongly and take the lead after 15 minutes, but Logarzo equalised almost immediately and Western were ahead on 19 minutes through Aimee Medwin.
Western scored twice in two minutes again just before half time, Catherine Zimmerman’s wicked cross was fired home from close range by Kahli Johnson before Logarzo got her second with a helping hand from a Pheonix mix-up at the back.
Wellington put pressure on the hosts in the second half but could only manage one goal back, through Emma Main’s emphatic late penalty but Western held out for three points.
