After a hard fought 2-1 away win over Brisbane last Friday night, the Mariners travel west tonight to face off against Perth Glory in the Isuzu UTE A-League Men’s competition.
Currently sitting in second place on the ladder with a number of teams chasing close behind, an away win tonight will see the Mariners maintain their place near the top of the table.
Team News
Following a hard fought and well-earned victory over Brisbane last weekend, Mariners head coach Nick Montgomery has made two changes.
Brazilian star Moresche returns after being out since the back end of last season with a serious knee injury, looking to make an immediate impact this weekend. He replaces Olayinka Sunmola in the squad.
Brian Kaltak also returns from suspension, having missed out last weekend due to his controversial red card obtained against Sydney FC.
The defender looks to slot straight back into the side, having been one of the best defenders in the Isuzu UTE A-League Men’s competition so far this season. Kaltak replaces Sasha Kuzevski, who drops out of the squad.
Perth have made three inclusions into their squad, with Giordano Colli, Joseph Forde and Jacob Muir entering the 20-man side.
Darryl Lachman drops out after receiving a red card against Melbourne City last weekend, with the defender the only exclusion from their round 16 side. Â
Recent Form
The Mariners picked up an important win last weekend, moving us back up into second place on the Isuzu UTE A-League Men’s ladder.
It had been a challenging few weeks prior to that, with the Central Coast dropping points in unfortunate and unlucky losses to Wellington and Sydney FC.
The side still sit second on the most goals scored list, averaging over two per match this season. Our last five matches have seen two victories, two defeats and a solitary draw.
Over the past month Perth have been the king’s of the 2-all draw, picking up three points from three of those results in their last five matches.
These draws came against Sydney FC, Wellington and Newcastle, with their only win over their most recent five matches being a 3-1 triumph over Melbourne Victory.
Perth currently sit in ninth place on the A-league Men’s ladder, only four points outside of the top six.
Previous Meetings
The Central Coast Mariners come out on top in the head-to-head standings between the pair, having secured the three points on 23 occasions compared to the Glory’s 18.
Matches played in Western Australia have been reasonably even, with the Mariners winning seven of the 24 games played.
These have all taken place at HBF Park, with tonight’s match to be the first between the two sides at Macedonia Park.
The Mariners have been undefeated in Perth since late 2018, coming away with points in each of our last three matches.
Perth were however able to secure the victory when we faced off at Industree Group Stadium in round three this season, recording a 2-1 win.
