The Central Coast Mariners are looking to continue their recent good run of A-League Men’s form this weekend, aiming to make it five wins from six matches on Friday night.
Currently sitting second on the Isuzu UTE A-League ladder after eleven rounds, the side now enter a crucial period of five away games in the six matches, with head coach Nick Montgomery keen to secure as many points as possible.
Team News
The Central Coast Mariners have named an unchanged squad for this weekend’s clash, keen to keep the momentum going as we face Macarthur.
Youngsters Cameron Windust, Sasha Kuzevski and Dor Jok retain their place in the squad, having brought energy off the bench in their appearances so far this season.
Both Storm Roux and Brian Kaltak have also been selected after the duo were rewarded for their form this season with contract extensions throughout the week.
The Bulls have also named an unchanged squad following their 2-0 win over Newcastle last weekend.
They are still without Danny De Silva, Lachlan Rose and Aleksandar Susnjar due to injury.
Recent FormÂ
The Mariners have been in strong form lately, securing four wins from our last five matches. This included a dominant 4-0 win over Adelaide United at home last Saturday, which featured three second half goals and a stunning performance from Sammy Silvera.
Over the past five matches the Mariners have scored eleven goals, contributing to us currently sitting first in the goals scored column. Our defence has been just as good, conceding only three times, including two clean sheets.Â
Those three points against Adelaide pushed the Mariners into second place, one point ahead of Western Sydney and two in front of this weekend’s opposition Macarthur FC.
Since returning from the world cup break Macarthur have found a way to secure points, collecting three wins from five matches. This included a 3-0 defeat of Sydney FC, as well as a 2-0 defeat of our F3 Derby rivals Newcastle last Sunday.Â
They have however dropped a couple of games, going down 4-0 to Western Sydney Wanderers a fortnight ago, as well as a loss to Melbourne Victory.
Macarthur currently sit in fourth place on seventeen points, with a loss on Friday potentially knocking them out of the top six.
Previous MeetingsÂ
Since Macarthur entered the competition for the 2020/21 season, it has been a hotly contested matchup between the two sides.
The Mariners currently hold the most wins in the fixture with four, while Macarthur have three along with a solitary draw.
When matches have been played at Campbelltown Stadium, the Mariners hold an undefeated record, coming away with two victories from two games played.
The last contest between the two sides resulted in a last-minute Macarthur winner, coming back in November last year. After a controversial red card to Brian Kaltalk and falling 2-0 behind, the Mariners almost secured a brilliant comeback through Garang Kuol.Â
The youngster scored a double to draw us level, with a last-minute goal against the run of play giving Macarthur the points.
During the 2021/22 season the best of three series ended with a win a piece, as well as a draw.Â
