Central Coast Mariners Women take on Melbourne Victory at Unite Round on Saturday afternoon, with free entry available to all supporters.
Emily Husband’s team remain undefeated despite being handed an unforgiving early season run of fixtures in the Ninja A-League. Tasked with facing the Champions Sydney FC, last season’s third place finishers Western United and Premiers Melbourne City in the first three games, three impressive performances have so far yielded five points.
The fixture list doesn’t get any easier however, as Melbourne Victory who finished fourth last season are next up.
Last time out:
Another second consecutive strong away performance in Victoria saw the Mariners take a point from an entertaining battle with Melbourne City, ending their 100% record from five games in all competitions.
The Mariners showed great spirit to twice fight back after going behind. Annalise Rasmussen opened her account for the season after Alexia Apostolakis had put the hosts in front with a stunner just two minutes in.
Lourdes Bosch restored City’s advantage before half time, but Izzy Gomez pounced to net her second of the season in the second half which earned the Mariners a deserved point and maintained our unbeaten start.
It’s been an entertaining start to the season for Victory with five goals in each of their opening three fixtures, they sit second in the table with six points.
They put in their strongest performance of the campaign so far last time out, running out 4-1 winners over Western United, following a 3-2 defeat to their rivals Melbourne City and a 3-2 opening day win in Adelaide.
