Mariners youngsters triumph in CCSC win

Central Coast Sports College (CCSC) under 15’s female team took on Hunter Sports High in Speers Point on Wednesday the 20th of July in the Newcastle regions final round of the Bill Turner Trophy. The Bill Turner Trophy is a female under 15’s school based tournament of the similarly named Bill Turner Cup and has been running for over 30 years.

Hunter Sports High have made it through to the final four of the competition every year since 2004 (excluding 2018) and went into this game with a high level of confidence. Unfortunately for the novacastrians the CCSC girls were there to prove a point and were up 3-0 within the first 10 minutes playing a high energy, high press game and rattled the game play of the Hunter Sports team. The final result remained unchanged with the coasties winning 3-0 at full time.

The CCSC team will now head on to the national finals that will be played in mid August where they will be up against the winners from the other regions around Australia with a goal of trying to make a mark for female football on the Central Coast.

Principal Paul Chapman was there to witness the game and expressed these sentiments, “in our short history of the College, we have come up against Hunter Sports on multiple occasions and they have always beaten us at this point of the competition so it is a significant testament to the hard work of our aspiring student athletes and the professionalism of our coaches for the way they carried themselves today. I could not have been prouder of them.”
