Mariners Match Wrap: F3 Derby Goal fest at Our Paradise

Central Coast Mariners and Newcastle Jets played out two thrilling matches on a huge day of derby action, sponsored by Polytec.

The biggest day on the Mariners calendar did not disappoint on Saturday, with 10 goals shared between our Isuzu UTE A-League and Ninja A-League clashes.

The Mariners also marked our 20 Season celebrations with a busy day of celebrations and activity, including the announcements of Matt Simon’s Mariners Life Membership and the Mariners 20 Final Selection.

Ninja A-League: Mariners 5-1 Jets

A scintillating performance from Emily Husband’s team saw them cruise to victory, guaranteeing that the Guard Rail will be staying on the Coast for another year.

Jess Seaman made her Mariners debut from the start, whilst 16-year-old Tiana Fuller made back-to-back starts.

Sarah Langman was called into action on seven minutes, making a crucial save before the Mariners went straight down the other end and opened the scoring through Brooke Nunn’s second goal of the season.

Newcastle levelled the scores on 30 minutes but the Mariners hit straight back, Bianca Galic calmly slotting home after Tiana Fuller forced a mistake from the visiting goalkeeper.

The floodgates opened with the second half, Fuller getting a goal for herself on 49 minutes and Pennock making it 4-1 just four minutes later.

Substitute Peta Trimis added the fifth in added time, the pick of the goals on a fantastic afternoon in front of goal.

Isuzu UTE A-League: Mariners 2-2 Jets

The Mariners were ultimately left frustrated after Newcastle recovered from 2-0 down in the second half to steal their first point at Our Paradise since 2022.

Dylan Peraic-Cullen was kept busy in the first 45 minutes, making saves from Thomas Aquilina and Clayton Taylor, whilst Daniel Wilmering wasted a golden opportunity for the Jets early on.

The deadlock was broken on 33 minutes, Nathan Paull netting his second of the season after some great work from Christian Theoharous.

Early in the second half, Abdul Faisal marked his home debut with his first goal for the club, driving past his man before firing at goal, Ryan Scott unable to keep a hold of his effort.

The Jets hit back with substitute Lachie Rose poking home after a scramble in the box, before Mark Natta headed in a late corner to save a point for Newcastle.
