Star winger Fabio Ferreira hopes Central Coast’s winning start to their Hyundai A-League campaign is a sign of things to come this season.

The Mariners made the perfect start to the new season as they edged Perth Glory 3-2 in Gosford on Saturday.

New striker Roy O’Donovan opened his account in the first half before Richard Garcia equalised for the visitors before the break.

But Ferreira capped a superb individual performance by converting two second half penalties to ice the result for Tony Walmsley’s side, before Gyorgy Sandor got a consolation for Glory in stoppage time.

“I’m very proud of the team, we play very good,” Ferreira told Fox Sports after the match.

“I think we have a good team and I hope we can do well this season.

“I’ve been training a lot and I was confident in both the two penalties,” the Portuguese winger added.

“I’m happy with the two goals and I’m happy for us to start with a win.”

Ferreira was a standout for the home side but they didn’t have a bad player in an outstanding team display.

Mitch Austin in particular looked dangerous on the other flank as the Mariners’ wide men tormented a disappointing Glory.

But it was a lacklustre showing from Glory, with their new imports struggling to make an impact on their Hyundai A-League debuts.

Glory return to nib Stadium next weekend to take on Wellington Phoenix, while the Mariners are on the road, heading up to Brisbane to take on fellow first round winners Roar.
