The Central Coast Mariners are excited to announce a partnership with the Australian College of Sport (ACS) who are introducing a unique sport education pathway on the Central Coast.

Established in 2006, ACS is an Australian Government accredited Registered Training Organisation that specialises in delivery of premium education qualifications in high performance sport to secondary school students and school leavers. Available at Certificate and Diploma levels, their world class programs offer ACS student athletes options to pursue multiple career choices in professional sport, with the primary focus being on students becoming a professional athlete.

ACS currently deliver programs in football (in partnership with Adelaide United FC) AFL (in partnership with Port Adelaide Football Club), as well as basketball and netball.

After a visit by Mariners Assistant Coach, Nick Montgomery to the ACS Football (Diploma of Sport Development) Program in Adelaide, the decision was made to offer talented footballers the same opportunity right here on the Central Coast.

The Diploma program for football is full time and delivered over a 12-month period by expert high-performance training staff. The curriculum comprises technical, physical, mental and tactical elements of professional football – coordinated with sport science, the business of professional football and career preparation skills.

Upon graduation and for those students who wish to progress their study at Bachelor level, credit transfer arrangements are available with Australian College of Sport University partners.

In addition to what ACS student athletes experience domestically in their Program, REPT FC (the Official Tour Partner of ACS) facilitate ACS students to tour Thailand each year where ACS graduates have the opportunity to showcase their talents with the chance to earn a professional contract in Thailand.

Central Coast Mariners CEO, Shaun Mielekamp praised ACS for providing more educational opportunities for young footballers on the Central Coast.

“The partnership between ACS and the Mariners is an important initiative that aligns well with the strategic directions for both organisations,” Mielekamp said. “For ACS to offer high quality training and education on the Central Coast is a fantastic opportunity for developing athletes to experience professional environments as they work towards a high-performance qualification.

“It’s so important for aspiring footballers to prepare themselves for life off the pitch, and to have a program here on the Coast that allows young players to study and progress as a footballer is a real win for the local region,” Mielekamp said.

Australian College of Sport Chief Executive, Stuart Roberts thanked the Mariners for supporting an initiative that will provide more educational opportunities for youth on the Coast.

“The Mariners commitment to long term success is a testament to their innovation for also aligning to programs that assist young people on the Central Coast,” Roberts said.

“ACS is delighted to be offering our Programs in partnership with the Mariners. It is a key partnership for us and the region that will open up many opportunities as the relationship grows,” Roberts said.
