Kye Rowles and Michael McGlinchey have both headed overseas on international duty after selections for Australia and New Zealand respectively.
McGlinchey has been selected in Danny Hay’s All Whites squad for their upcoming games against the Republic of Ireland and Lithuania in Europe, while Rowles has been rewarded for strong performances with a callup to the Australian U-23 side that will head to China as Australia’s preparations for the 2020 AFC U-23 Championship in Thailand continue.
Mariners teammate Daniel DeSilva was initially picked in the U-23 squad to tour China, but was ruled out through injury after the Mariners’ 3-1 loss to Melbourne City on Friday night.
McGlinchey, 32, has made 53 appearances and scored five goals for New Zealand in international football, and flew fly out over weekend after being named on the bench for the loss to Melbourne City at AAMI Park.
McGlinchey said he was looking forward to the chance to represent his country and get underway with the new manager.
“It’s always a massive honour to be selected to represent your country,” he said.
“We are playing two quality teams which will be a great test for us.”
“It’s been a long time since we last played, so I’m looking forward to the camp and getting started under the new manager.
Rowles meanwhile has started all four of the Mariners Hyundai A-League clashes so far, and both he and McGlinchey will miss Saturday’s clash with Adelaide United at Central Coast Stadium.
