Stay up to date with your favourite former Mariners, including January moves for Maty Ryan, Kye Rowles and Sammy Silvera.
Mathew Ryan (Mariners Cap #60) – RC Lens
After a stint with Italian giants Roma, Maty Ryan was on the move again in January as he made the switch to French Ligue 1 club RC Lens, adding an eighth country to his first class resume.
So far, so good for Ryan who has kept clean sheets in his first two appearances for his new club, with Lens winning back-to-back games in Ligue 1 for just the second time this season to rise to sixth in the ladder, with a big game against fifth-placed Nice next up on February 9th.
Kye Rowles (Mariners Cap #133) – DC United
After 82 appearances over three years with Hearts in the Scottish Premier League, Rowles has moved on to an exciting new challenge in the US, joining DC United on a two-year deal.
Rowles is in line to make his MLS debut when DC kick-off their season on February 23rd against Toronto FC, lining up alongside the likes of former Belgium and Premier League striker Christian Benteke, who is the club captain and marquee player.
Josh Nisbet (Mariners Cap #145) – Ross County FC
Nizzy ended December with goals in back-to-back games but January was a tough month for Ross County as they went without a win.
They have slid down the Scottish Premier League table to 11th, five points above bottom spot St. Johnstone who they face later this month.
Sammy Silvera (Mariners Cap #161) – Blackpool FC
After spending the first half of the season at Portsmouth on loan from Middlesbrough, Silvera has now joined League One Blackpool in the January Transfer Window.
He has hit the ground running, scoring off the bench in a 2-2 draw with Charlton Athletic to make it seven games unbeaten for the Tangerines, lifting them to 13th in the table in the English third tier.
🗣️ "My main focus is to work hard in training and the minutes and goals will come if I continue to do that."

Max Balard (Mariners Cap #172) – NAC Breda
Breda remain in the hunt for a UEFA Conference League Qualifying spot, sitting ninth in the Eredivisie, with Balard still impressing in the heart of midfield.
Balard stole the hearts of the Breda faithful almost immediately upon arrival in Holland, earning the nickname ‘Aussie Kante’. He has missed just 25 minutes of Eredivisie action all season.
Jacob Farrell (Mariners Cap #179) – Portsmouth FC
Farrell is still battling back from a knee injury which has disrupted his first season overseas with Portsmouth, where two fellow young Aussies joined him in the January transfer window, former Brisbane Roar striker Thomas Waddingham and Sydney FC product Hayden Matthews.
Waddingham scored on debut despite a 5-1 defeat to West Bromwich Albion, whilst Matthews made his debut against Millwall just two days after joining the club.
Hopefully Farrell will be joining them back on the field soon, as they aim to help Portsmouth stay clear of the Championship relegation zone.
Jason Cummings (Mariners Cap #192) – Mohun Bagan SG
January saw an uncharacteristic dry spell for Cummings in front of goal, his last goal coming on January 3rd in a 3-0 win against Hyderabad in the Indian Super League.
Cummings did however provide two assists last time out, in a 4-0 victory against Mohammedan FC as Mohun Bagan extended their lead at the top of the ISL to nine points.
Marco Tulio (Mariners Cap #201) – Kyoto Sanga
Tulio ended his maiden J-League campaign in December, racking up 35 games whilst contributing five goals and six assists as Kyoto Sanga finished 14th on the table, comfortably avoiding relegation for a third consecutive season.
The J1 League is back underway on February 15th for Tulio, as his team take on newly-promoted Okayama.
Nectar Triantis (Mariners Cap #202) – Hibernian FC
We’ve saved arguably the most in-form player on this list until last. Triantis has been flying for Hibs in recent weeks with three goals and two assists in his last six games.
Operating in midfield and not missing a minute since November, his performances are increasing the likelihood of a maiden Socceroos call-up, with World Cup Qualifiers against Indonesia and China coming up next month for Tony Popovic’s men.
