Jordan Murray brace caps off 4-0 win

On a cold night in the coalfields of Weston, the Central Coast Mariners ran out 4-0 winners over the Weston Bears thanks goals by Matt Simon, Abraham Majok and a brace to Jordan Murray.

In a lively opening half, the name on everyone’s lips was South Korean signing Kim Eun-Sun. Drifting between the centre midfield and centre back, Kim’s touch on the ball and enthusiasm in attack gave Mariners fans a small sign of what’s to come from the former Suwon Bluewings’ captain.

Both goals in the first half were created by 20-year-old attacker, Abraham Majok. The first saw him fouled in the box to award the penalty (converted by Simon). The second was some fast-paced-footwork along the byline that was finished by Majok himself from a tight angle.

Sam Silvera continued his bright start to life in Mariners colours, who was narrowly denied from distance by the Weston goalkeeper. As did Tommy Oar who’s shot from 30 yards out rattled the crossbar and somehow didn’t cross the line.

Play evened out a touch in the second half, however the Mariners rounded out the game dominating possession and field position.

After substituting on at half time, Jordan Murray wasted no time making an impact and had two goals in the space of two minutes to complete his side’s 4-0 win.

The Central Coast Mariners would like to thank Weston Bears for hosting a great pre-season friendly – and our pre-season streaming provider, 101.3 Sea FM.

GOALS:

22’ SIMON PENALTY: After Majok was brought down in the box, it was skipper Matt Simon who stepped up to the spot kick. Simon made no mistake, slamming home his shot.

32’ MAJOK GOAL: Again, it was Majok who created the chance, but this time he finished it himself. After running along the byline and nutmegging a defender, Majok slid his shot home from a tight angle.

55’ MURRAY GOAL: After coming on at the half time break, Murray made his presence known immediately with a tidy finish to make it 3-0.

57’ MURRAY GOAL: Murray made it two goals in two minutes, picking up a pass from McGlinchey on the edge of the box he fired a shot into the bottom corner from just outside the area.
