Joeys advance to AFC U-17 Asian Cup knockout stages

Current Mariners academy member Miguel Di Pizio and former member Anthony Pavlesic have helped guide the Joeys into the knockout stages of the AFC U-17 Asian Cup.

After three matches of group stage action the Joeys are into the quarter finals, finishing second in their group.

An opening 2-0 loss to eventual group winners Saudi Arabia left the side with work to do, set to come up against China and Tajikistan in the final two matches.

A thrilling 5-3 win against China ended up being quite the challenge, with the scores locked at 4-3 for much of the second half.

This game was followed up with a vital 2-0 victory over Tajikistan, proving safe passage out of Group C for the Joeys in second place on six points.

Australia will now come up against the winner of Group D, which will likely be either Japan or Uzbekistan on June 26th.

Congratulations to Miguel, Anthony and the entire Joeys squad on making it into the knockout stages, and good luck!
