In our Hyundai A-League countdown series, we look at the men who make up the Central Coast Mariners squad… from player number 23, down to player number 1. Today, we shine the spotlight on Dutch defender, Patrick Zwaanswijk.
6. Patrick Zwaanswijk
Imposing central defender Patrick Zwaanswijk was one of the Mariners best players last season, with his years of experience coming to the fore during a stellar campaign.
Prior to joining the Yellow and Navy, the Dutchman enjoyed a decorated career in his homeland, playing over 300 Eredivise matches with FC Utrecht and NAC Breda.
Zwaanswijk also spent a short period in Japanese football with Oita Trinita, with the Mariners the fourth professional side for the 36-year-old.
Despite being the oldest member of the Mariners squad, Zwaanswijk is a consummate professional, looking after his health and fitness to ensure he more than keeps pace with the Hyundai A-League elite.
