Central Coast Mariners are delighted to announce that young midfielder Jesse Mantell has signed a scholarship deal with the club ahead of the Isuzu UTE A-League 2026/27 season.
Mantell’s journey from Terrigal United to the Mariners’ A-League squad is a perfect example of the pathway the club strives to provide for young talent from across Australia, beginning right here on the Central Coast.
At just 18 years of age, Mantell has emerged as one of the club’s brightest young prospects, showcasing his potential with a string of impressive A-League performances following his debut last season.
After initially being brought into the A-League squad in pre-season last campaign, Mantell had to be patient but was rewarded with his A-League debut in April, coming on as a late substitute in a 2-1 defeat to Melbourne City.
Just three days later, he made his home debut in front of friends and family against Brisbane Roar. He wasted no time announcing himself, scoring a superb goal that proved to be one of the moments of the season and instantly made him a favourite amongst the Mariners faithful at Polytec Stadium.

Mantell’s stature, energy and playing style have drawn comparisons with former Mariners midfielder Josh Nisbet. Standing at the same height (160cm), both players combine relentless work rate and tenacity with composure and quality in possession.

Central Coast Mariners Sporting Director Matt Simon said Mantell had earned his opportunity through years of dedication and consistent development.
“Jesse is exactly the type of player we want at this football club, and we’re delighted to see him sign his first scholarship contract.”
“He’s a fantastic example of what our academy pathway is all about. Jesse has worked incredibly hard over a number of years with the club, he’s embraced every challenge and continued to improve every season.”
“He is a fantastic representation of the Coast, hard-working and humble, but also a technically excellent footballer. He showed that with his performances in the A-League.
“He plays with maturity beyond his years, he’s driven and he’s always looking to learn. He is already a fan-favourite here but we are excited to see what more he can achieve in the upcoming season and beyond.”
Mantell said signing his first professional contract with the club he had supported growing up was a dream come true.
“It’s something I’ve dreamed about since I was a kid,” Mantell said.
“Growing up on the Central Coast, you always dream about wearing the Mariners badge in the A-League. To come through the academy and now sign a scholarship with my hometown club is an incredible feeling.”
