From a Kenyan refugee camp to the Mariners: Sabit Ngor’s story

In the space of three months, Sabit Ngor has gone from playing in the NPL to scoring in the AFC Champions League Elite.

Ngor first announced himself to the Mariners Family as he shone in our Australia Cup Round of 32 clash with Heidelberg United, catching the eye of Mark Jackson who invited the 23-year-old for a trial before putting his faith in the youngster by offering him a two-year deal.

The winger has already began repaying that faith, scoring crucial goals against Adelaide United and Shanghai Shenhua. Ngor was also a standout performer in our Round Four clash against Wellington, once again impressing off the bench despite our defeat.

But there is so much more to Sabit’s story, as he tells in a fascinating interview with A-League’s Sacha Pisani. Ngor talks about almost ‘giving up’, his footballing idol Lionel Messi, his incredible journey to the Mariners from a Kenyan refugee camp via Western United, Finland and the NPL, plus much, much more.
