FNYL MATCH: Central Coast Mariners 1-2 Sydney FC

In round one of the Foxtel National Youth League the Central Coast Mariners have suffered narrow a 2-1 defeat at the hands of Sydney F.C. First half goals to Sydney’s Aaron Calver & Charles Lokoli Ngoy were enough to overcome a second half screamer set up by Trent Buhagiar, finished by Lachlan Wales.

With 10 minutes left to play from an even and open first half it was the away side that struck first through Calver. A defensive mix up sent the ball pinballing around in the box that eventually fell to the feet of Calver who belted home from just outside the six-yard box.

Five minutes later, Charles Lokoli Ngoy, who looked dangerous in patches during the first half leapt above the pack to meet a precision cross with his head that proved too much for the Mariners’ keeper, Tom Heward-Belle who made some crucial saves through out the 90 minutes.

Highlights for the Central Coast Mariners were the combination play in the middle of the park between Adam Berry, Lachlan Wales & Trent Buhagiar who linked up for a number of impressive plays pushing forward.

The home team came out firing in the second half and it was Wales who fired home in the 47th minute of play. Buhagiar was the provider with a pacey run down the left, his ball was pin point for Wales who finished first time with power.

Full attention now turns to next Sunday that will see the Central Coast Mariners Youth Team take on the Western Sydney Wanderers Youth team at Marconi Stadium
