THERE’S just 15 days to go until the start of our Hyundai A-League season, so what better way to reminisce about Mariners memories then by looking back to the 2007/08 season when the yellow & navy signed Qantas Socceroo superstar John Aloisi.
Returning from a distinguished spell abroad which featured stints in Italy-s Seria A, Spain-s La Liga and Britain-s English Premier League, Aloisi made 15 appearances for the Central Coast.
Aloisi found the back of the net seven times in his mere 15 matches and was signed as a season long replacement for the injured former Mariner Matthew Osman.
After playing for clubs all over Europe, Aloisi has since retired from professional football. He hung up his boots at the completion of Hyundai A-League season six.
Aloisi will always be remembered as one of Australia-s most iconic Socceroos after scoring the decisive penalty against Uruguay in a shootout, allowing Australia to qualify for 2006 FIFA World Cup for the first time in 32 years.
John Aloisi is the current Head Coach of Melbourne Heart in the Hyundai A-League.
