Tony Walmsley has selected his provisional squad for the Central Coast Mariners’ Hyundai A-League round three fixture against Melbourne City F.C., set to take place on Sunday at AAMI Park, Melbourne.
Central Coast Mariners’ young guns and former National Premier League team mates, Jake McGing & Josh Bingham played alongside one another for the first time in a Hyundai A-League line up in the Yellow and Navy’s last round fixture against Brisbane Roar and are on track to make the trip to Melbourne this weekend.Â
Bingham scored his maiden Hyundai A-League goal against Brisbane Roar last round as a second half substitute and McGing played centre back in a starting backline that boasted an average age of just 21.
The young striker made an instant impact as a second half substitute scoring the Mariners’ only goal of the evening in the 88th minute but admitted the feeling would have been even better if it delivered his side three points.Â
“It’s nice to get my first goal in the league but it would have been that bit sweeter if we had the result but it wasn’t to be unfortunately,” Bingham said.Â
“As a striker I want to be on the end of things and score goals, it was great work from Fab (Ferreira) in the build up and I was just lucky to be there to tap it in to be honest.”
McGing noted the challenge of coming up against seasoned attackers in Thomas Broich & Corona but saw the performance as a great learning experience.Â
“It was obviously a tough game for us playing away from home, it’s obviously a work in progress but me and Harry (Ascroft) have good chemistry and I think that the more games we get under our belt, we should be fine,” McGing said.Â
Central Coast Mariners squad: 1.Paul IZZO (gk), 2.Storm ROUX, 3.Josh ROSE, 5.Harry ASCROFT, 6.Mitch AUSTIN, 7.Fabio FERREIRA, 8.Nick MONTGOMERY (C), 9.Roy O’DONOVAN, 10.Anthony CACERES, 11.Nick FITZGERALD, 14.Daniel HEFFERNAN, 16.Liam ROSE 18.Glen TRIFIRO, 19.Josh BINGHAM, 21.Michael NEILL, 22.Jake McGING, 23.Eddy BOSNAR, 30.Adam Pearce (GK)
